Hazelnuts have been cultivated in the ‘Langhe’ since the early 1800s, and today have become the most important monoculture of the area.
The Nocciola Piemont IGP is best suited to the land of the Alta Langa where in this part of Piemonte there is a perfect balance between the altitude, the clay soil and a climate tempered by the warm air currents from Liguria. This combination provides optimum conditions for the cultivation of the hazelnut variety: ‘Tonda Gentile Trilobata’ (the Noble Round Tri-lobed hazelnut).
Here, right in the heart of the ‘Langhe’ at 700mt above sea level in the hills between the river valleys of the Belbo and Bormida lies the farm of NocciolaNatura owned by Massimo Ferrino, not far from the Ligurian border and near the village of Castino.
